Handling Negatives

  • Do not cut your 35mm negatives apart into single frames.
  • If your negatives are in sleeves, leave them in there where they’re protected. You can view them through the sleeve.
  • If your negatives aren’t in sleeves, do your best to protect them; purchase some good quality negative storage pages, or at least store them in envelopes.
  • Do not cut your 35mm negatives apart into single frames.
  • Don’t use tape, staples, paper clips, sticky notes, etc., on your negatives.
  • Don’t mark on your negatives.
  • Avoid getting any sort of liquids or other foreign matter on your negatives.

  • Avoid touching your negatives on the image area; hold them carefully on the edges. Better yet, use clean gloves made of cotton, latex or vinyl.
  • Even if your negatives aren’t in good shape, do your best to prevent further damage to them.
  • Store negatives in a cool, dry place.
